The Accident Investigation Bureau on Thursday denied reports that an
unnamed aircraft from Gabon to Lagos crashed as it approached Murtala
Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. AIB spokesman, Tunji Oketunbi,
told New Telegraph on the telephone that the news was triggered by a
mock search and rescue exercise conducted by the police and aviation
authorities at Oworonshoki area of Lagos.
The exercise was concentrated around the spot where an helicopter
crashed in 2015, killing six persons. The mock exercise involved
helicopters and teams of policemen and rescuers drawn from different
agencies to sharpen their response to air disasters.
