USAID EMBARKS ON FREE TUBERCULOSIS TEST IN ISOLO

United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the lead US government agency that works to end extreme poverty and enable resilient, and democratic societies to realise their potential has carried out a free tuberculosis test for residents of Isolo community.
Residents trooped out in large numbers to partake in this humanitarian gesture.
Dedicated and qualified medical personnel were seen offering the service to willing residents with much gusto. One of the beneficiaries of the exercise, Mrs. Titi Olumide could not contain her joy when she said. “It’s a good thing that an organization will carry out this sort of thing without collecting any fee from anybody. In this era of serious economic crunch, most residents here would not have afforded it.”
When our correspondent prodded one of the officials of the agency on why they embarked on such a life-saving project, the middle aged woman who craved anonymity said ‘for the past one month we have been going round offering free test for Isolo residents to know their TB status and the response has been tremendous”.
Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease caused by bacteria which usually attack the lungs. It can also damage other parts of the body. The bacteria called Mycobacterium Tuberculosis (MTB) causes the disease. It is spread through the air when people who have active TB in their lungs cough, spit, speak, or sneeze.
