Reinventing Apapa gridlock at Toyota Bus stop

The popular Toyota Bus stop along Oshodi-Apapa expressway has constantly become a place of
nightmare for motorists as a result of illegal parking of petrol tankers along the service lane and
somemes blocking the enre road. At times, these tankers have a long queue, stretching from their
loading Bay at Toyota Bus-stop to Airport Road.

As a result of this gridlock, commercial buses are unable to make use of the service lane, thereby
causing them to park indiscriminately on the express to pick passengers, which in turn cause
another heavy traffic extending from Toyota Bus-stop to Charity Bus-stop in Oshodi.

The consequences of these actions are becoming unbearable on vehicle owners plying the road.
Apart from commercial and man-hour loss arising from this menace, threat to lives and property
are very eminent as Motorists are easily robbed in the traffic at night by men of the underworld.

Some of the Motorists interviewed admitted that they were victims of robbery at one time or the
other. One of them, Wale Oladipupo said he lost his job because he was robbed of his office
valuables while driving home around 8pm on a fateful day at Toyota Bus-stop.

A widow who pleaded anonymity also claimed to have lost her husband to an accident involving
her husband’s car and a Tanker at the dreaded Toyota Bus-stop. “On that fateful day, my husband
had called me to prepare his favourite food, which I did not knowing that he would not eat. I was
waiting patiently for him before I received the bad news that threw my life into darkness. Please,
tell the government to do something about this before other women become like me” She
concluded.

Some Tanker drivers interviewed said the reason why they park outside the premises of the MRS
loading bay was due to overcrowding of Tankers inside. They held that parking closer to the
company will hasten the process of loading. They claimed that since there was no other place to
park their Trucks, they just have to make do with the road.

Isolo Voice therefore uses this opportunity to appeal to relevant Authorities to expedite action on
how orderliness will return to this area to safeguard lives and property. This will also go a long
way to improve the economic activities within Isolo community and our beloved Lagos state.
